Camp Day 2

camp No Comments »

We made it through day 1 with no injuries or breakdowns. We realized we forgot the can opener, so we can’t make hot sauce like we promised. Ben and Jackye are coming, so they’ll save us and we’ll have hot sauce later.

Last night, we had a skit and learned that we need a DTR — or to Define the Relationship with God (Joshua 24:14-15). We challenged the kids this week at camp to Choose whom they will serve.

It rained yesterday and the forecast is for scattered showers today. We’ll see what happens.

We’ve got a lot in store for us today. We’re going to be talking about Holiness through the day today.

We’ll also be playing Ninja Warrior today — and you know how important THAT is.

Grace & Peace,

-Matt

Big Summer Bribe – Day 2

Uncategorized No Comments »

It’s day 2 of the Big Summer Bribe. Have you done your Devo Today?

If you don’t know what to do, you can check out the one from Josh McDowell using the “Daily Youth Devotional” link to the right. If that doesn’t fill your 15 minutes, you can read some more scripture, pray, sing some songs to God, or even write a song for Him.

I prayed, read some scripture, and read chapter 3 of John Piper’s book, “When I Don’t Desire God: How to fight for Joy.”

Daily Devos

If you’re not having a Daily Devo, you should be. Friendships are based on communication & hanging out… So how can you have a friendship with God without a little one-on-one time every day? Take 5-10 minutes to start your day with God.

There are tons of instances in the Bible where men & women of faith had a “quiet time” or “daily devotional.” Daniel did. David did. Tons of others. Examples of crying out to God in the morning are all over the Psalms too.

Psalms 5:3 says, “O Lord, in the morning you hear my voice;  in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.”

Josh McDowell (a really cool guy) puts out a daily devo you can use every day. It’s on the web and it’s really easy to get to. Click here to check it out. He also wrote some really amazing books that Rachel and I both love, including “Evidence that Demands a Verdict.” It is full of supporting evidence for the trustworthiness of the Bible.

There will always be a link to his devo on this page with the other links.

Hey Youths, I need ideas for a grand prize. I am going to issue you guys a challenge for the summer, but I don’t know what the reward should be. Post some ideas in the comments. I’m serious about this, so any stupid ideas like “a baby zebra” won’t go over very well.  I’ll get you started with some ideas in the comments.

Ascension Day Feast – Wed. May 12

Uncategorized 1 Comment »

http://www.flickr.com/photos/kubina/2160248208/Did you know that Jesus rose on Easter, but he didn’t ascend into heaven for 40 more days? He was hanging out with the apostles and showing himself to many other people. In 1 Corinthians 15:1-11, Paul says that Jesus appeared to 500 people at one time! Most of those people were still alive when he wrote to the Corinthians. Close to 500 corroborating Eye Witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus. That’s amazing! You can’t get 500 witnesses to testify in court for anything nowadays!

He ascended into heaven 40 days after Easter as it says in Acts 1:1-26. Ascension Day this year is Thursday May 13. We’ll be celebrating with a feast the day before – Wednesday, May 12!

Let us know by  Sunday, May 9 if you’re coming and how many slices of pizza you want. It won’t cost you anything if you let us (Matt & Rachel) know by Sunday.

Fill out the poll and let us know what type of pizza you want!

What Kind of Pizza Do You Want at the Ascension Day Feast?

  • Meat Lovers (40%, 2 Votes)
  • Veggie (40%, 2 Votes)
  • Canadian Bacon (40%, 2 Votes)
  • Pepperoni (yuck!) (20%, 1 Votes)
  • Sausage (0%, 0 Votes)
  • Hamburger (0%, 0 Votes)
  • Cheese (0%, 0 Votes)

Total Voters: 5
